Yesterday, May 6th, the House General Laws Committee passed House Bill 726, strengthening firearms preemption laws, by a vote of 7-1. It will now advance to the House floor for consideration, where it has yet to be scheduled.

House Bill 726, the House equivalent of Senate Bill 74, repeals the exception for localities to regulate open carry, and creates fines for localities that violate statewide preemption laws. Attorney General Andrew Bailey has taken action against localities violating statewide preemption previously, and this bill ensures that those who violate statewide preemption will face strict consequences.
