This week, three anti-gun bills are scheduled for hearings in separate committees in the Maryland General Assembly, including HB 197, which would impose an 11% excise tax on firearms and ammunition. Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee:
SB 775 would require that every firearm surrendered through a gun buyback program be permanently destroyed, including all components and parts.
House Environment and Transportation Committee:
HB 1067 would require the Department of Natural Resources to phase out traditional lead ammunition for the hunting of all game species by July 1, 2029.
House Ways and Means Committee:
HB 197 would impose an 11% excise tax on firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition.
