On Tuesday, March 23, Governor Walker signed Senate Bill 48, HB294 and HB 295 into law. SB 48 clarifies existing Utah law, which asserts that the right to keep and bear arms is a constitutionally protected individual right and that there should be uniform laws across the state. SB 48 will also ensure that unelected bureaucrats cannot usurp the legislature’s authority on the subject and impose restrictions on law-abiding citizens.
House Bill 294 brings Utah into conformity with Federal law in respect to firearm purchases. It repeals outdated language regarding background checks necessary to comply with Federal law and the bill repeals the requirement that individuals purchasing firearms from dealers show multiple pieces of identification. House Bill 295 streamlines the application process by reducing unnecessary and duplicative materials which applicants for permits must file and which the Bureau of Criminal Identification must process.Utah Governor Signs Three NRA Backed Bills Into Law
