Proposed New Jersey Legislation Would Turn Crime Victims into Criminals!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Please Contact the Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee Today!

Assemblyman Mims Hackett, Jr. (D-27) has proposed legislation, A541, which would require the owner of a firearm that is lost of stolen to report the incident to police within 72 hours upon discovering it is missing or face fines of up to $1,000.

This outrageous legislation penalizes law-abiding gun owners for having their property lost or stolen.  Of course, criminals will welcome A541 with open arms.  Instead of focusing on real criminal activity, law enforcement will be required to devote resources to investigating law-abiding gun owners.  A541 will turn victims into criminals without any regard to the cost of enforcement or finding people who are actually committing crimes.

A541 will be heard before the Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee on Thursday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m.

Committee Room 13, 4th Floor

State House Annex

Trenton, NJ 08625

Please contact the members of the Committee listed below and respectfully urge them to vote against A541.
