New Hampshire: Self-Defense Bill Passes Conference Committee

This week in New Hampshire, an amended version of Senate Bill 88, introduced by state Senator David Boutin (R-16), was approved by the Committee of Conference.  The amended version, which will be before the General Court for final approval next week, contains much-needed self-defense reform for gun owners in New Hampshire.

Unfortunately the Conference Committee decided to remove a provision from Senate Bill 88 which would have created “permitless carry” and committee members failed to act on another amended version which was supported by the NRA.

Despite the overall support for the concept of “permitless carry” in the legislature, the committee rejected the amended version because of the rift in support among state gun rights groups.  Yesterday, a final attempt by the NRA and others to bring consensus among state grassroots organizations was successful, however this success occurred after the conference committee deadline had passed.

Despite the outcome, the National Rifle Association has been and will continue to champion right-to-carry/self-defense measures in New Hampshire and across the United States.  Throughout the remainder of the legislative session, our association will continue our efforts to work with legislature and grassroots organizations to resolve the issue and establish “permitless carry” in the Granite State.
