On March 29, the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois denied a motion for a temporary restraining order against Cook County in enforcing a $25 firearm tax that was sought by several firearms retailers located within county. The plaintiffs argued that a tax on the means to exercise the Second Amendment right to self-defense is akin to a tax imposed on exercising any other constitutional right, such as free speech. Although the temporary restraining order was denied, the plaintiffs continue to seek an injunction against collection of the tax.
