California: Several Firearm-related Bills Are Scheduled to be Heard on Tuesday, April 14

Please contact your state Legislator TODAY!

It is time to start to calling AND emailing your state Senator and Assembly Member respectfully urging them to protect the Second Amendment and California’s hunting heritage.  The California legislature returned from spring recess last week and is ready to hear pro- and anti-gun and hunting legislation.

The below bills will all be heard on Tuesday, April 14.

The Assembly Committee on Public Safety will hear Assembly Bill 950 in room 126 of the State Capitol at 9 a.m.   Assembly Bill 950 would allow a person who is subject to a gun violence restraining order to transfer his or her firearms to a licensed firearms dealer.  Please contact the members of the Committee on Public Safety and urge them to SUPPORT AB 950.  Contact information for the Committee can be found here.

The Assembly Committee Water, Parks, and Wildlife will hear Assembly Bill 665 in room 437 of the State Capitol at 9 a.m.   AB 665 would provide that the state fully occupies the field of the taking and possession of fish and game and would prohibit a city or county from adopting an ordinance or regulation relating to the taking or possession of fish and game. Please contact the members of the Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife and urge them to SUPPORT AB 665.  Contact information for the Committee can be found here.

Lastly, the Senate Committee on Public Safety will hear three firearm-related bills, pro-gun Senate Bill 566 and anti-gun bills, Senate Bill 707 and Senate Bill 347 in room 3191 of the State Capitol at 9:30 a.m.  Please contact the members of the Senate Committee on Public Safety and urge them to SUPPORT SB 566 and OPPOSE SB 707 and SB 347.  Contact information for the Committee can be found here.

  • Pro-gun SB 566 would add honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Air National Guard, or the active reserve components of the United States to the list of individuals who are exempt from obtaining the Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC), which California law requires to purchase a handgun.
  •  Anti-gun SB 707 would prohibit CCW holders and retired law enforcement officers from possessing firearms on any properties that make up the grounds of a K-12 school or university, including many parking lots, common areas that may not be readily identifiable as school grounds, and student apartment buildings.
  • Anti-gun SB 347 would add to the list of misdemeanors convictions that would result in a 10-year prohibition on the possession of firearms.

Please forward this alert to your family, friends, and fellow gun owners and sportsmen and urge them to contact the committee member also.
