Last night, the Maryland General Assembly adjourned sine die from its 2022 legislative session. During this session, they continued Maryland’s attacks on Second Amendment rights by passing two more anti-gun bills. Senate Bill 387, to ban Marylanders from manufacturing their own firearms for personal use, became law without Governor Larry Hogan’s signature. Gov. Hogan vetoed House Bill 1021, to impose unreasonable burdens on gun stores and drive them out of business, but the General Assembly then overrode the veto.
The House Judiciary Committee heard some pro-gun bills, but unsurprisingly left them all in committee.
Fortunately, opposition from NRA members and Second Amendment supporters resulted in Senate Bill 676 being left in committee. It would have imposed unreasonable, one-size-fits-all firearm storage requirements that would have required gun owners to make their firearms unavailable for self-defense.
Gun owners must remember these actions as we get closer to the 2022 Maryland elections, when all seats of the General Assembly and the statewide offices are up for reelection. NRA will be back in Annapolis for the 2023 legislative session. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
