Montana: Two Pro-Gun Bills are Stuck in the House Judiciary Committee

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Contact committee members today!

Two pro-gun bills, House Bill 271 and House Bill 368, are being held up in the House Judiciary Committee.  Your right to self-defense should not be prohibited by arbitrary lines on a map or for fear of being fired by your employer for lawfully exercising your Second Amendment rights.  Time is running out on these important self-defense bills.  Committee members need to act now.

HB 271, sponsored by state Representative Krayton Kerns (R-Laurel), would allow persons eligible to apply for a Concealed Weapons Permit to carry concealed without a permit within city limits.  Currently, no permit is needed to carry concealed outside of city limits.

HB 368, sponsored by state Representative Wendy Warburton (R-Havre), would allow an employee to keep a lawfully-owned firearm inside a locked motor vehicle or locked in the trunk of a motor vehicle when the vehicle is parked at their place of employment, as long as the firearm is not in plain sight.

Anti-gun committee members are doing everything they can to stall these important pieces of legislation.  Please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to act quickly on HB 271 and HB 368.  All legislators may be contacted by calling (406) 444-4800 or click here to send an e-mail.
