Nebraska: State Preemption Bill Expected for First Floor Debate and Vote

Please contact your state Senator today and urge them to support LB 289!

Today, Legislative Bill 289, the state preemption bill, is on General File and scheduled for its first floor debate in the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature.  LB 289 is expected for its first vote on Monday, January 25, or Tuesday, January 26.  This is the first of three votes that LB 289 will need to pass before being sent to Governor Pete Ricketts (R) for his signature.

As previously reported, LB 289, sponsored by state Senator Laura Ebke (32), will help protect the Second Amendment rights of all Nebraskans by creating a preemption statute to ensure that firearm and ammunition laws remain consistent across the Cornhusker State.  This much-needed legislation will prevent a complex patchwork of regulations across the state that makes it difficult for responsible firearm owners to ensure they are following the law.

LB 289 passed out of the Judiciary Committee in 2015 without opposition.  This bill qualified as a carryover bill for the second session of the 104th Legislature and has been placed on the list of Priority Bills for 2016.

Please contact your state Senator TODAY and politely urge them to SUPPORT Legislative Bill 289.  Also, please consider attending Session on Monday, January 25 at the Nebraska State Capitol to show your support for this critical pro-gun legislation.  An address for the Capitol is provided below.
