Texas: Message to Lawmakers on HB 1927: Coming Close Doesn’t Count

Texas: Message to Lawmakers on HB 1927: Coming Close Doesn’t Count

Many of you have asked for an update on HB 1927, constitutional carry legislation.  Here are links to the individual amendments offered and adopted by GOP Senators last week to the Senate-passed version of the bill (the text of which is not available online yet).  The bill has now passed the House and the Senate, and Texas is so close to becoming the 21st state to allow law-abiding citizens to carry a handgun for protection without a state-issued license -- but the work is not over!

Texas Legislature Online - 87(R) Amendments for HB 1927

The bill is being sent back to the House with the Senate amendments incorporated, but the measure is not eligible for further consideration in the House just yet.  It's likely that at least one change made to the bill by the Senate violates House rules, which could cause the bill to stall on procedural maneuvers.

Please contact your State Senators and urge them to work with the House to fix the Senate's adverse amendment language to HB 1927.

Please also contact Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and urge him to work with the House to fix the Senate's adverse amendment language to HB 1927, so that the bill can pass and move on to Governor Abbott for his signature.

The message to ALL state lawmakers on HB 1927 needs to be this: coming close doesn't count.  Pass permitless carry INTO LAW this session.
