Governor Lujan Grisham Attempting Unconstitutional Gun Ban in Bernalillo County!

Dear New Mexico NRA Member:

Late Friday, anti-gun Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that she will attempt to institute and enforce an unconstitutional 30-day ban on open and concealed carry of firearms in public places in Bernalillo County. She apparently intends to accomplish this by administrative fiat under the guise of a public health emergency, which she declared in response to her and her political sidekick, Mayor Tim Keller's inability to control the violent crime situation in Albuquerque that is a direct result of their failed "soft on crime" policies. She also stated that State Police officers will be sent to the affected area to enforce this so-called "civil order," a violation of which would amount to misdemeanor. That would be because local law enforcement is not on board with her radical edict and are distancing themselves from this lame-duck governor while walking a political tight rope:

From the Sheriff of Bernalillo County, who was endorsed by Everytown/Moms Demand Action and who supports the state's red flag gun confiscation laws:

While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold,” [Sheriff John] Allen said. “I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.

The Albuquerque Police Department has punted enforcement of the ban to the Lujan Grisham-controlled State Police: "The governor issued a 30-day state order that limits gun possession in Bernalillo County, including the City of Albuquerque. The governor made it clear that state law enforcement, and not APD, will be responsible for enforcement of civil violations of that order."

This has become a chess game of accountability while your rights hang in the balance.

Lujan Grisham has demonstrated a complete disregard for the Second Amendment rights of New Mexicans and a willingness to shred the New Mexico Constitution and the U.S. Constitution in the name of a public health emergency before. NRA-ILA will keep you posted on any further developments. In the meantime, contact the Governor's office and Mayor Keller's office and let them know that it's already illegal for criminals to carry guns and that you oppose this outrageous and unconstitutional attack on the rights of law-abiding residents of Bernalillo County to protect themselves and their families.
