Grassroots Spotlight: New Mexico Grassroots

The 2024 New Mexico State Legislative Session had no shortage of extreme anti-gun legislation being pushed by none other than Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. However, your New Mexico NRA-ILA Grassroots Team was on the ground fighting back and defending the Second Amendment every step of the way. The New Mexico NRA-ILA team traveled across the state, hosting pre-session meetings in Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Farmington in the fall of 2023. Then on the eve of the session, NRA-ILA hosted a statewide webinar, warning and preparing law-abiding New Mexicans of Governor Lujan Grisham's radical agenda for the following 30 days.

As the lawmakers were gaveled into session, New Mexico NRA-ILA State Director, Tara Mica, was in the Roundhouse for all 30 days, and New Mexico NRA-ILA Grassroots Staff were active across the state, educating and engaging individuals about the fight for freedom. In total, NRA-ILA Grassroots hosted six Legislative Briefing Meetings at three different locations in Albuquerque, Clovis, and Las Cruces during session.  Not only did law abiding, pro-gun New Mexicans add to the discussion at these meetings, they then took action contacting their lawmakers and testifying in front of committees! We also welcomed our newest Frontlines Activist Leader, Eric Goodkowsky, who has already been hard at work in Eastern New Mexico. NRA-ILA Grassroots rallied alongside hundreds of patriotic New Mexicans, the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association and multiple lawmakers in front of the Roundhouse. As we continue to fight for the Second Amendment on the Frontlines in New Mexico, NRA-ILA would like to thank Calibers Shooting Center, Stryker's Shooting World, NMSSA, and the thousands of law-abiding New Mexicans that joined in the fight!  Please click HERE to read more about the legislation during the 30-day Session in New Mexico.

However, our work is not yet done in the Land of Enchantment. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has stated that she intends to call a special session on "public safety" issues, which should be assumed to push more extreme gun measures. NRA-ILA will continue to monitor the Governor's actions for any gun control measures that may be on the agenda. The NRA and its members are passionate and vigilant, and will continue the fight for freedom!
