South Carolina: Prohibited Persons Expansion Bills On the Move

On Tuesday Feb. 4th, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on two problematic legislative proposals, SB 180 and SB 143. Both bills expand prohibiting categories beyond federal law. With this proposed expansion, persons who were not previously prohibited could become prohibited overnight. Additionally, those who may travel to South Carolina and may not be prohibited under their home states laws or the federal prohibition could run afoul of the law and face harsh criminal penalties.
